Days after the murder, detectives took notes of statements made by the victim’s 4-year-old child who was in the house when his mother was murdered.
“Vincent” – it’s noted – stated repeatedly, “Jimmy pushed mommy down and she yelled”.
There is nothing in the official file showing detectives followed up on that statement. No “Jimmy” was ever identified and the statement was never revealed in court. Sue Gless has been investigating the case for nine years. “It’s disturbing because neither of the men that are in prison for this crime are named Jimmy,” Gless said. “They ignored it. There’s no other answer for it.”
And that’s not the only thing that might have been ignored. The police file contains documents that reveal tips came in shortly after the murder about a man who bragged in a bar that he cut the throat of a woman in Alliance. An APB was sent out on another man who “knew too much” about the murder, but there appears to be no serious follow up. Chief Investigator Duane Pohlman repeatedly tried to get answers from former detective William Mucklo who was one of the lead detectives on the case but he would not talk to Pohlman.
